Here’s something that should get our attention folks: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg recently raised a toast to the republican pillars of his profession, as he defended the penultimate conviction of our former president, Donald Trump. Now, his cherry-picking of notable figures got me thinking: how much attention was he giving to the words of our forefathers? Was he listening, or was he just playing his tune?
In a 1940 speech, U.S. Attorney General Robert H. Jackson gave a warning about prosecutors picking their defendants, rather than the cases that need handling. A case in point was Trump’s trial – where the prosecutor starts with the person they dislike, and then looks for a way to pin a crime upon them. That’s a clear abuse of power and a giant leap away from fair, just law enforcement.
Many would argue that this is exactly what’s happening, not just with Trump, but potentially anyone who crosses paths with a zealous prosecutor fueled by their personal motives rather than justice. Tune in to the narrative here: it’s not about the crime, it’s about who is committing it. That’s essentially the prosecutor playing God, picking and choosing who they want to see fall.
That’s the scary thing folks – this trumped-up charge and conviction could hold some scary consequences. George Soros supported District Attorney Bragg, but let’s not forget that even after getting elected on a pledge to take down Trump, he couldn’t follow through on his promise.
Judge Juan Merchan was generous with his purse to the Democrats, yet related to the case, while Matthew Colangelo jumps ship from being the third highest official in Biden’s Justice Department to work on a state prosecution.
Having a jury pool drawn from a city that supported Biden also stirs the pot. It seems like an unjust attack, fuelled by a political motive against someone unpopular rather than upholding justice.
I don’t usually entertain conspiracy theories, but it’s hard not to spot the clear bias here. As The Wall Street Journal rightly warned, Bragg may have just destabilized the dynamic of American politics.
Sure, we might be hearing whispers about Trump’s conviction being overturned, but the mess it left behind is still fresh. Our legal system has taken a hit, stained by this incident.
Who can predict what havoc may result from vengeful prosecutors in conservative Republican states who might return the same favor to left-leaning politicians? This incident might very well be the ground zero for a total collapse of a system that’s supposed to keep our society balanced and fair.
The question for those favoring the unfair treatment of Trump soon could become, would you like to be on the receiving end of such injustices? It’s not about Trump, it’s about justice and fairness. This remains a teachable moment for our great nation. It’s time for us to think about what fairness truly means and uphold it, for ourselves and for those to come after us.
