When Manhattan’s Democrat D.A. and his predominantly Democrat jury handed Donald Trump a guilty verdict on business accounting charges, the liberal media immediately launched into hyperbole, describing the event as ‘historic’. Yet, with an appeal still pending, how ‘historic’ can this event truly be? The left-leaning press seems to only use this grand term when the results align with their agenda.
Remember back in 1998? Bill Clinton was on trial, impeached for his affair with Monica Lewinsky. The reaction from journalists like Geraldo Rivera? Pure outrage. They lambasted the impeachment as a clear betrayal of the founding principles of our Constitution. Fast forward to Trump’s double impeachment, and you’ll find the folks at NBC News never once shed light on the possibility of such actions resembling a ‘coup’.
The hypocrisy reached new heights when people like Geraldo purported to speak for our Founding Fathers, as if they knew what Madison and the rest would think. The same people who don’t miss an opportunity to disparage the Founders as proponents of a racist, sexist, capitalist patriarchy.
But, such transgressions on the sanctity of our Founders’ principles repeat themselves. The latest Trump trial saw the same abuse of historical context. Journalists and commentators played fast and loose with the words of our Founding Fathers, invoking their spirit to side with Democrats. George Stephanopoulos even pitted John Adams against Trump in one of his commentaries.
Then there’s New York Times’ Peter Baker, who conveniently had Patrick Henry take on Trump on the front page of the June 3 edition. In fact, Baker went as far as to suggest that a convicted president isn’t necessarily disqualified from running for commander-in-chief, completely subverting the conventional wisdom regarding American democracy.
Regardless, according to Baker’s narrative, an abuse of presidential authority is something only Trump could commit. But if we’re really getting down to the brass tacks, couldn’t this same notion be applied to President Biden too? It naturally begs the question: Does it offend Democrat lawmakers when Biden circumvents the legal proceedings to pardon $165 billion in student loans to court younger voters?
The left-leaning media and their Democrat supporters have a habit of using ‘History’ to validate their agenda. They argue that there’s a ‘right side’, and that side clearly mirrors their own liberal viewpoint. Democratic practices and principles get tossed aside as long as the intended goal is fulfilled. Regrettably, our revered Founding Fathers are reduced to mere tools to prop up their power games.
Inevitably though, this constant misuse of past historical figures does beg the question: if they’re quick to contort historic truths to satisfy their narratives, what else might they be skewing in their coverage?
