In a shocking revelation, President Joe Biden’s administration has directed U.S. Border Patrol agents to release illegal immigrants from nearly all of the over 100 countries in the Eastern Hemisphere instead of deporting them. This news comes on the heels of Biden’s executive order last week that he claimed would shut down the border if overwhelmed—a statement many officials and security experts have since dismissed as mere window dressing.
The Washington Examiner acquired a memo given to Border Patrol agents by Biden officials which contradicts previous statements on how extra-hemispheric migrants would be treated. Eastern Hemisphere countries include the entirety of the Middle East, Asia, most of Africa, and a significant portion of Europe.
According to Examiner border correspondent Anna Giaritelli, instructions provided to Border Patrol agents starkly oppose what senior Biden administration officials had told reporters during a call on Tuesday.
A Biden official was quoted as saying, “Extra-hemispheric migrants have always been a challenge. They will be subject to these rules, provisions. We’ve also been working with governments all over the world to enhance our ability to repatriate individuals to countries that have historically been challenging.”
The official further claimed that the rules would allow the imposition of “immediate and fast consequences to migrants no matter what country they’re coming from.”
However, instructions given to the Border Patrol agents permit fast removal for only individuals from Georgia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Immigrants from all other Eastern Hemisphere countries will be released into the U.S., where they can seek asylum.
This policy has led to what Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin calls a “mass catch & release” situation for illegal immigrants, with nearly 10 million entering the U.S. since Biden took office.
Such a policy not only undermines the credibility of the Biden administration but also raises crucial questions about border security and America’s commitment to upholding its own immigration laws. Concerns abound that this could potentially open the floodgates for illegal immigration, exacerbate social tensions, and place enormous strain on the nation’s resources.
In conclusion, the Biden administration’s decision to release illegal immigrants, instead of deporting them, is having far-reaching consequences. Such incoherent policies on border security signal severe gaps in judgment and understanding of the real issues at stake. As officials and security experts continue to voice their concerns, it is only fair to question whether future policies will provide genuine solutions or if they will only serve as more window dressing. The American public deserves better.
