The CBS Mornings crew have once again shown their infatuation with the political flag du jour while grimacing at the flag of yesterday. A few weeks back, the conservative Appeal to Heaven flag fluttering outside Justice Samuel Alito’s residence drew their ire, yet now they offer a soft-focus spotlight on the Pride flag and its creators.
In a remarkable display of left-leaning favoritism, the CBS hosts recently aired the story behind the rainbow Pride flag, treating it as a revelatory piece of history. They were all ears as they interviewed Lynn Segerblom, one of the flag’s creators, despite previously finding fault with the Appeal to Heaven flag, characteristic of this mainstream media hypocrisy.
Segerblom explained that the rainbow was selected due to its spectrum of colors, well-known as a natural phenomenon. Yet, conservatives will argue that the inherent beauty and diversity symbolized by the rainbow has been co-opted by a movement that often deviates from traditional societal norms. Even omnipresent controversies with transgender athletes competing in women’s sports and explicit educational content concerning LGBTQ+ matters presented to children in our public schools highlight these concerns.
It’s no news that the original rainbow flag’s credit has been debated, with Segerblom claiming her share. Broadcaster Elise Preston even hinted at gender discrimination. Yet Segerblom did not bite, pointing out that male contributors too remained unrecognized.
After the interview, the CBS hosts gave half-hearted applause. Even as they praised the flag’s ‘full spectrum’ representation, they failed to question the double standards they themselves have set. All while the same group condemned Justice Alito’s display of the Appeal to Heaven flag, spurring calls for his withdrawal from important cases involving the Trump presidency and the Capital’s January 6th incident.
So, we’re left puzzled by CBS Morning’s uneven treatment of political flags. An emblem associated with a conservative Supreme Court Justice is belittled, while another, symbolizing the LGBTQ+ community, is held aloft. This discord goes straight to the heart of mainstream media’s unabashed bias, a problem conservatives recognize and challenge.
In conclusion, the inconsistency of CBS Mornings regarding political flags begs a reexamination of media impartiality. A flag symbolizing conservative values becomes a controversy, while another with liberal significance becomes a celebratory beacon. The right-wing populace deserves better representation in mainstream news, a space free from double standards and infused with fair treatment. The struggle for objectivity continues.
