Elon Musk has had a great deal to say lately, and people are listening. Recently, he talked about China’s economy versus the United States’ economy and what he said is concerning.
Musk was a guest on the All-In podcast on Monday. He said, “[w]hat we’re going to see with China, for the first time that anyone can remember who is alive, is an economy that is twice the size of the U.S., possibly three times the size of the U.S., and it’s going to be very weird living in that world.”
He continued: “So, we better stop the infighting in the U.S. and stop punching ourselves in the face. There’s way too much of America punching itself in the damn face, it’s just dumb, and think about, hey, ‘We gotta be competitive here. There’s a new kid on the block that’s going to be two to three times our size. We better step up our game and stop infighting.”
Musk took aim at companies that bring politics into the workplace as well. He said: “The point of a company is to produce useful products and services for your fellow human beings. It is not some political gathering place.”
Elon Musk, who has Tesla plants in China, has gushed about Chinese workers. He said: “There’s just a lot of super-talented, hard-working people in China that strongly believe in manufacturing and they won’t just be burning the midnight oil, they’ll be burning the 3 am oil. They won’t even leave the factory, type of thing, whereas in America, people are trying to avoid going to work at all.”

While China has not overtaken the United States in total economic output yet, the fact that someone like Elon Musk is concerned is concerning. It is true that companies are taking sides in political issues and thus focusing less on what the company actually does. For example, Disney, taking on Florida Governor DeSantis. We have also seen many Americans not want to work. Do you agree that Americans are punching themselves in the face? If so, what can be done to change that?
