Johnny Depp Wins Defamation Case Against Amber Heard

A jury in Fairfax, Virginia, reached a decision on Wednesday in favor of Johnny Depp in the famous defamation case brought by Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard. He was awarded $10.35 million in damages. Heard received $2 million. Heard had previously said that Depp sexually assaulted her and hit her.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million and pointed to a 2018 op-ed she wrote calling herself “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Heard filed a counterclaim against Depp for $100 million and called it a hoax.

The seven-person jury deliberated on Friday and on Tuesday for 12 hours. They announced on Wednesday that they had reached a verdict. Watch the full clip below of the jury’s announcement.

“While Ms. Heard’s stories have continued to grow new and convenient details, Mr. Depp’s recollections have remained exactly the same throughout the six painful years since her first allegations were made,”” a representative for Depp told PEOPLE after the verdict. “His truth — the truth — is the same no matter the environment in which it has been presented.”

Amber Heard was present in the court, but the event was skipped by Johnny Depp, who flew to the UK to play in a concert for Jeff Beck. Normally, Depp’s fans showed up outside the courthouse. They were not in attendance today as news spread that he had left the country.

The case has swept the country and been covered by media outlets from around the world and finally reached it’s shocking finale.

“Your presence shows where your priorities are,” according to a statement from Heard’s representation. “Johnny Depp plays guitar in the UK while Amber Heard waits for a verdict in Virginia. Depp is taking his snickering and lack of seriousness on tour.”

People online have been anticipating the result of the case.

One Depp supporter wrote on Twitter before the verdict was announced, “Verdict is in. Whatever happens JD has won in the court of public opinion and that was the most important thing to him.”

A girl on Tik Tok posted a video with the headline “The verdict has been reached!! It comes out in 1 hour!!”

The jury’s verdict signals a complete rebuttal of Amber Heard’s claims. Depp is definitely the bigger winner out of this trial.

Were you team Johnny or team Heard? Are you surprised by the verdict? Tell us your thoughts.
