American’s Belief In God Falls To All Time Low Gallup Finds

It’s been a really hard two years. A first ever pandemic hit that had governments around the world, including in the United States, shutting down their countries. A lot of people lost loved ones. A lot of people lost jobs. And it looks like a lot of people lost faith as well.

While the majority of Americans still believe in God, that number is on the decline, according to Gallup. In their latest Values and Beliefs poll, they found that the number of people who still claim a belief in God is down to 81%. The last time they asked that question was in 2017, when 87% of Americans still reported a belief in God.

When Gallup asked this question for the first time, in 1944, a whopping 98% of Americans expressed a belief in God. The number held strong through the 1940’s, the 1950’s and the 1960’s. But then things began to change.

In 2011, the number had dipped to 92% faith in God. Not a huge dip, but still a decline. And now, 11 years later, it’s down to only 81%.

One twitter used asked the obvious question: “I’ll say it, how can anyone believe in murdering babies & believe in God. Answer, they don’t believe in The One True Yahuah!”

Gallup reports that those least likely to believe in God, include liberals (62%), young adults (68%) and Democrats (72%). Belief in God is highest among political conservatives (94%) and Republicans (92%), they said.

One person tweeted this in regard to the Gallup finding: “Our rejection of biblical morality is a symptom of our broader rejection of biblical truth.”

Gallup also asked this question: whether God hears prayers and whether God intervenes when people pray. Here’s what they found: “42% of all Americans [who believe in God]– say God hears prayers and can intervene on a person’s behalf. Meanwhile, 28% of all Americans say God hears prayers but cannot intervene, while 11% think God does neither.”

This could explain what’s going on in this country, as far as the level of anger and disregard for human life, both born and as yet unborn. While we can’t say for certain, it is doubtful that the madman who massacred 19 kids and 2 of their teachers in Uvalde, Texas believed in God. Nor the madman who killed 10 at the grocery store in Buffalo, New York. Nor, it is arguable, do the people who think abortion is okay. But don’t tell that to Nancy Pelosi, who insists she’s a devout Catholic and yet supports abortion. What do you think is causing the decline in the belief in God?
