According to Rep. Matt Gaetz in a interview with Breitbart News, the IRS has inexplicably spent almost $700,000 between “March and June 1” purchasing ammunition.
Gaetz called the ammo purchase “bizarre” and told the news outlet that his Republican colleagues are investigating why the ammunition was purchased and what the purpose of it was.
The IRS does have an armed enforcement division. Here’s a CEO in the 1990s detailing what an IRS raid is like.
“There is concern that this is part of a broader effort to have any entity in the federal government buy up ammo to reduce the amount of ammunition that is in supply, while at the same time, making it harder to produce ammo,” said Gaetz.
The Florida Congressman contends that federal entities are buying up ammo for the purpose of limiting the amount of ammunition in supply. The idea is that they reduce the total ammunition through legislation then “on the other hand, [buy] up the supply of it.”
Gaetz continued, “You cannot fully exercise the complement of your Second Amendment rights if you are unable to acquire ammunition in your own country because your government has reduced the production of that ammunition, and then on the other hand, tried to soak up the supply.”
Usaspending.gov shows IRS ammunition purchases ranging in size from $3,201 worth of ammo to $92,000+ worth of ammo at a given time. They did it in a three month span from March 1 to June 1 and bought in total $700,000 worth of ammunition.

“The IRS should be people in cubicles with green [eye] shades and calculators,” the Gaetz said. “They shouldn’t be people with guns and ammo.”
He said that this is the federal governments way to defeat the constitution. “It is as wrong as wrong can be,” Gaetz asked.
During President Trump’s administration, federal agencies also stockpiled similar amounts of ammunition. Between the years of 2010-2017, federal agencies outside the pentagon purchased $1.5 billion in firearms, ammunition, and tactical equipment.
Should our federal agencies be stockpiling weapons and ammunition? Many on the right and left would be alarmed to know that our federal administration is sitting on so much military gear. Are they just trying to make ammo more expensive? Or, do you think it is something more sinister?
