Just like in San Francisco, Los Angeles citizens have grown tired of their District Attorney’s so-called criminal justice reforms that just led to higher crime. And just like in San Francisco, they are doing something about it, by trying to get a recall on the ballot. San Francisco did it and they already have a new District Attorney who says she will be tougher on crime than her recalled predecessor. Now, it looks like Los Angeles will get their recall too.
The preliminary count of signatures in the petition to recall Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is 715,833. That is well over the 566,857 valid signatures needed to put the recall on the ballot. Now, the signatures just need to be validated.
A Twitter user is holding Gascón to his word, tweeting: “George Gascón: ‘The day that you don’t think I’m doing my job I’ll leave and you can find somebody else.’ The people of LA have spoken. LEAVE[.]”
Gascón did say that, back in November 2020. Los Angeles is trying to hold him to his word.
“L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan said his office has completed the first step in the review of the petitions,” reports the L.A. Times. They are now validating the signatures and must finish doing so on or before August 17. To verify the signatures, the Clerk’s office takes a random sample of 5% of the total signatures obtained. If there are enough signatures, the petition must then be certified by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors at its next regular meeting.

Californians are telling their elected leaders they are not happy with their liberal policies, at least as they relate to crime. L.A.’s District Attorney has to see the writing on the wall, and that he may be out of a job come November. Do you think he will be recalled?
