A District Attorney in the Atlanta, Georgia area has been disqualified from investigating a fake, pro-Trump “elector” from the 2020 election.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was set to investigate state Sen. Burt Jones for his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election. Jones was chosen as a Trump “elector” who would throw his support behind the former President had former Vice President Pence refused to certify the election results.
However, it was revealed in recent financial disclosures that DA Willis has recently hosted a fundraiser for the Democrat candidate who is running against Senator Jones in November.
Judge Robert McBurney of the Superior Court of Fulton County wrote and order on Monday officially removing the DA from the investigation over her clear conflict of interest.
“This scenario creates a plain — and actual and untenable – conflict,” Judge Robert McBurney said in his order. “Any decision the District Attorney makes about Senator Jones in connection with the grand jury investigation is necessarily infected by it.”
“An investigation of this significance, garnering the public attention it necessarily does and touching so many political nerves in our society, cannot be burdened by legitimate doubts about the District Attorney’s motives,” he wrote.
While the judge did remove Willis from the case, the same order he issued rejected the request of 11 other phony electors who had also been subpoenaed by Willis in the case to drop the charges. The case for Senator Jones is expected to be handed off to a less biased prosecutor’s office.
Willis argued against the removal, saying that Charlie Bailey was in a primary when the fundraiser was held and that there was no proof that he would be the eventual Democrat nominee at the time.
The oversight of allowing DA Willis on the case to investigate Jones is viewed as a significant, unforced error in one of the highest profile and most important cases in the nation. Georgia is currently investigating Trump’s role in trying to overturn the election after he called the southern state’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and requested that he find the necessary amount of votes, over 10,000, needed to shift the election in his favor.
Do you think the Judge made the right decision to remove the Georgia District Attorney from the high profile case? Should he have disqualified her from all the other electors as well and handed them off to a new prosecutor?
