Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous Ends With Lesbian Kiss

For five seasons, Netflix’s Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous has built a loyal following among children and families. The animated show follows a group of teens that are stranded on the Jurassic island from the films.

The final season came out this week and parents were in for a surprise ending when two of the shows gay leads kissed. Some parents were unhappy as it seemed to come out of nowhere.

Watch the scene take place at the 1:55 minute mark.

The two characters were loners throughout the show. Their names are Yaz and Sammy. Yaz was originally kept apart from other love interests so she could focus on training. However, Sammy is a Texas farm girl that interacted with Yaz and tried to get her to stop being such a loner.

At first, the two were just friends but in the final season both of them open up about their feelings for each other. Yaz finally confessed her feelings to Sammy and the two kiss after a dinosaur attack.

Many on the left loved the scene while many parents were not happy. Several comments on Yahoo News highlighted how some parents felt about the scene.

“They can’t ever just have a regular show. They are corrupting all the little kids that watch this, this needs to stop,” wrote Jett.

“Well at least we’ve talked to my son about homosexuality, but this kind of stinks for the parents that have kids that aren’t really ready to discuss it. I get wanting some representation, but in a kid’s show? Next season they will have drag queens and transvestites being introduced,” wrote Mark.

Netflix has been accused of pushing liberal agenda toward kids for years now. It makes sense. Obama sits on the board of the company, but it makes it harder for young children who have not been talked to about these kind of relationships by their parents. It’s not up to Netflix to teach our kids. It’s up to parents. Do you think they were out of line to include this?

  • i think its amazing that netflix does this i think its good that childs on young age learn about LTBTQ+
and that they now that its alright to fall in love with the same gender as you and that they shouldn't be ashamed of it

  • Frankly, I'm cancelling Netflix today because I am so tired of their agenda popping up all over the place. I started expecting it in teen and mature rated shows (always pleasantly surprised when it was shockingly absent). But I absolutely draw the line when my four kids come to me upset and confused about something they saw in a scene from a series they previously loved and were excited about. Netflix, you went too far this time. STOP. PUSHING. YOUR. AGENDA. Why have a kissing scene of any kind in a children's show? You clearly don't understand your audience. My kids all know about LGBTQ+ and we teach them to love everyone, but they were uncomfortable with this and so am I.

  • Yes, would have to say out of line for sure. The one major point is that this needs to involve parental discretion; most people do not want to be lectured or preached to. Does not fall to Netflix, Amazon or any other media outlet. Especially since Camp was geared for a younger audience. Most viewers were blind sided by this turn of events. Even Brooklyn & Kenji came out of nowhere really. Both the 2 relationships seemed extremely contrived & over the top. I just thought this was supposed to be about the Dinosaurs, the kids & friendships made. And lastly getting of the island(s). It is pushed into nearly every series & or movie on Netflix. Why? Again, please, enough with the obnoxious lecturing. Quit with the reimagining of all your content.

  • And the romantic relationship between Kenji and Brook were fine? The double standard can't last forever. This show is made for young teens, not children, this isn't Go dogs Go or the The Paprika Twins. This is a show about young teens going through a coming of age on an island full of dinosaurs. It's not filled with violence but the show can get a bit dark at times and survival. Something I have to assume would give young children where lgbt topics arent even really applicable would be watching.

That said, I think its fantastic that they have included some representation for not even full on lesbian, they're questioning their sexuality, and thats totally okay. Parents who are up in arms about their children seeing two young women being romantic and sharing a kiss, and experiencing some kind of support from their friends is so far from extreme. This is the same level as the relationship between Kenji and Brook. Shielding your children from the same but between two people of the same sex/gender is only delayi

    • So its okay, because inevitably these young children will be exposed to it, this is your philosophy? They are also inevitably going to see drug use, heroin users and meth users, so your theory is we should probably start preparing now and allowing them to watch shows that show drug use. Or they are inevitably going to see pornography too, so according to your theory they might as well start watching it now. I find a flaw in your logic.
I just believe it should be the parents job, right to teach their children about certain things, without the indoctrination of NETFLIX.
I took a personal pole of 7 and 8 graders, which are ages 12, 13 and 14 at a local middle school. Out of the 179 kids I interviewed 23 of them watch this show, which is 13%. I then interviewed 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, 276 students.
      4th grade 86 (ages 9-10): 79 watch show regularly 92%
      5th: 94 (ages10-11): 78 watch show regularly 83%
      6th: 96 (ages 11-12): 66 watch show regularly 69%
This show is not designed for teens and the children watching this show are preteen at best. NETFLIX should stay in its lane. And NO, I do not think that Kenji and Brooklyn should have kissed either. I think for the audience it is too far.

      • You are doing great things exposing people to the truth and defending children from groomers!

  • Personally, I also think Netflix is a bit out of line. but I can kind of understand why. I think big media might have been pressured by the LTBTQ+ community to add more of this type of stuff. and I get why parents are upset and I'm glad they care about their children. but I don't care because in the end it's all just public media and has no permanent impact, and finally it does not bother me, because of how I lived and the way my parents treated me. if people don't like it then please don't support the big media companies that make this stuff. remember people have more power, then they think. I'm not saying all this to make people angry, because personally I don't care. I just want people to stop being so divided about this. and work together as we all should be.
