CNN White House correspondent John Harwood is leaving CNN.
“[L]ook forward to figuring out what’s next,” Harwood wrote on Twitter, after noting that Friday would be his last day at the channel.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, It is not immediately clear what spurred his departure, though Harwood still had plenty of time left on his multi year contract.
CNN hired Harwood from CNBC in January 2020, where he had been chief Washington correspondent. His sharp criticisms of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party earned him a reputation at both CNBC and CNN.
Here’s how Twitter world reacted to Harwood’s departure.
Jason Rantz tweeted, “The purge of CNN’s hyper-partisan, bad faith hacks continues. Want to know who is likely on the chopping block? The folks who have tripled down on their partisan garbage, like Don Lemon (and John Harwood up until today). They know they’re out, so they won’t change.”
Stephen Miller said, “John Harwood was selected to moderate a GOP primary debate, then emailed Clinton campaign chief John Podesta about what questions he should ask. He should have been long unemployed years ago and maybe the GOP has learned their lesson about debates now.”
And Jason Miller said, “Good. Clear out the trash.”
As we previously reported, Harwood’s departure comes just two weeks after previous-host Brian Stelter was fired from the network.
