This shortfall is alarming, considering the increased budget allocated for police recruitment. Since 2020, the department has lost 515 officers and only hired 190. While some retired, others cited a lack of support from the city following the George Floyd incident as the reason for their departure.

The report also revealed that high-priority 911 calls have an average wait time of 10 minutes, potentially putting lives in danger.
