The city of Seattle is in dire need of more police officers, and the consequences of this shortage are being felt by the city’s residents. Response times on 911 calls are increasing, and in some areas, crime is so rampant that mail delivery has been paused. This is what happens when liberal politicians allow far-left radicals to operate with impunity while law enforcement is demonized.

According to a report submitted to the Seattle City Council, the SPD planned to hire 31 officers in the first quarter of 2023 but only managed to hire 26. This shortfall is alarming, considering the increased budget allocated for police recruitment. Since 2020, the department has lost 515 officers and only hired 190. While some retired, others cited a lack of support from the city following the George Floyd incident as the reason for their departure.

The report also revealed that high-priority 911 calls have an average wait time of 10 minutes, potentially putting lives in danger. It’s easy to understand why so few people are willing to enlist in law enforcement when they’re held in contempt by the city’s liberal leadership. The left has made it clear that they want to defund the police, and it seems that they’re succeeding in driving people away.

The city of Seattle needs to take a hard look at its policies and fix whatever is causing the problem. Demoralizing law enforcement officers while allowing far-left radicals to run amok will only lead to further chaos and uncertainty. The city needs leadership that prioritizes public safety over political agendas.

In conclusion, it’s apparent that Seattle’s police department is struggling to recruit new officers, and this shortage is causing response times to increase and crime rates to soar. If the city doesn’t act fast to rectify the situation, things will only get worse. The Gateway Pundit urges the city’s leadership to adopt policies that prioritize public safety and support its law enforcement officers.
