The recent entry of civil rights activist and former Harvard Divinity School philosophy professor Cornel West into the presidential race has further compounded the Democrats’ problems. West has now transitioned as the Green Party candidate “with the goal of giving working people, the poor, and struggling Americans across the 50 states a real choice that’s of, by, and for the people in the 2024 election.”

But the Democrats’ leadership seems oblivious to the perils of these developments. Democrat National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison is among those who have issued warnings, but his weak leadership is hardly reassuring. “This is not the time in order to experiment.” What kind of statement is that? The DNC needs to wake up and realize that they are out of touch with the American people and, more importantly, with the issues they care about. The Democrats are failing the people, and if they don’t change soon, they will face a crushing defeat in the upcoming 2024 election.
