A recent survey from The Economist/YouGov has revealed the disturbing reality that just four in ten Democrats believe that President Joe Biden, 80, is the “strongest” candidate for the party in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. This alarming statistic has sent shockwaves throughout the party and raised serious concerns about the future of the Democratic Party. With over one-third, 36 percent, of Democrats rejecting Biden as the strongest candidate, it is clear that the party is in shambles and desperately needs to find a viable alternative.

Moreover, the survey also revealed that a majority, 55 percent, of Republicans identify former President Trump as the Republican Party’s strongest candidate for 2024. This is a clear indication of the strong support that Trump still enjoys among the Republican base, despite the challenges he has faced in recent years. With Trump poised to be a strong contender in the upcoming election, it is imperative that the Democrats find a candidate who can match his appeal and energy.

However, the situation is rapidly becoming worse for the Democrats, as third-party candidates are emerging as a major threat to their chances of winning the presidency in 2024. The recent entry of civil rights activist and former Harvard Divinity School philosophy professor Cornel West into the presidential race has further compounded the Democrats’ problems. West has now transitioned as the Green Party candidate “with the goal of giving working people, the poor, and struggling Americans across the 50 states a real choice that’s of, by, and for the people in the 2024 election.”

But the Democrats’ leadership seems oblivious to the perils of these developments. Democrat National Committee (DNC) Chairman Jaime Harrison is among those who have issued warnings, but his weak leadership is hardly reassuring. “This is not the time in order to experiment.” What kind of statement is that? The DNC needs to wake up and realize that they are out of touch with the American people and, more importantly, with the issues they care about. The Democrats are failing the people, and if they don’t change soon, they will face a crushing defeat in the upcoming 2024 election.

Finally, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) is continuing to toy with the potential of a third-party bid, which is increasing speculation following the news of his upcoming participation in the No Labels “Common Sense” town hall taking place in New Hampshire this month. Manchin’s potential bid is a clear indication of the disarray within the Democratic Party, and it further undermines any hope that they might have of mounting a serious challenge to Trump’s re-election bid.

The 2024 election will be a pivotal moment in American history. It is clear that the Democrats are in disarray, and their weak, ineffectual leadership is a major reason for this. They must take immediate action to restore their credibility, or else they will suffer a crushing defeat that will have far-reaching consequences for the future of the party and the country as a whole.
