SHOCK: Police Department Recruits Civilians To Help to Battle Violent Crime Wave

Crime is so bad in New Orleans, that the police are having to go to extreme measures in order to combat it.

According to WDSU, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson announced that the force is focusing on hiring civilian workers to help with the officer shortage.

This comes, after we reported, that New Orleans was recently named the new murder capital in the United States.

In addition to administrative tasks, civilians will assist with calls for service.

The police will no longer be required to respond to medical calls, forgery calls, theft calls, lost animals, and auto accidents on private property.

Instead, civilians will assist investigators and detectives with the collection of evidence through online reports and phone reports.

Some of those civilian workers will even be trained as detectives, Ferguson said.

As noted by RedState news, the City is revising some of its hiring requirements to accommodate these changes. In addition to passing a drug test, potential hires will not be asked about marijuana use during the hiring process. Low credit score applicants will now be eligible as well.

It remains to be seen whether this will have a significant impact on the City’s crime rate.
