Valdez, a 36-year-old former union organizer and Democratic Socialist of America member, is mounting a primary challenge against moderate Democrat Antonio Reynoso to replace retiring Rep. Nydia Velasquez in New York's 7th Congressional District.
The socialist power play was on full display in Bushwick over the weekend, where Mamdani appeared alongside UAW President Shawn Fain to endorse Valdez's radical agenda. Social media posts captured the cozy relationship between these far-left allies as they plot to seize another congressional seat.
"I came to politics through low-wage jobs and the labor movement," Valdez declared, signaling her intention to bring union boss priorities to Washington rather than representing all Americans.
