Five years after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's questionable stock trades were exposed, a Republican lawmaker is finally taking action to end the congressional insider trading gravy train that has enriched politicians at taxpayers' expense.
Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) introduced the "Stop Insider Trading Act" on Monday, directly targeting the corrupt practice that has allowed members of Congress to profit from non-public information while ordinary Americans get left holding the bag.
The bill comes after mounting public outrage over Pelosi's portfolio performance, which was first exposed by Autopilot investment app co-founder Chris Josephs. The former Speaker's trades consistently outperformed the market in ways that would make Wall Street pros jealous – and land regular citizens in federal prison.
Patriots Demand Action
Americans are fed up with the two-tiered justice system that allows Congress members to get rich while preaching about "fairness" to working families. Social media users are already rallying behind the legislation, though many remain skeptical about Democrat opposition.
"Everyone knows Pelosi and her pals will stop this bill! Question-how much personal money is enough for Representatives?" tweeted @WestJedd41781, echoing the frustration of millions of Americans who've watched politicians become millionaires on government salaries.
Another user, @KathrynSueMoore, praised lawmakers offering "REAL SOLUTIONS" and called on representatives to "Stand up! Make a difference! Represent We The People…who elected you!"
Draining the Swamp
Steil's legislation represents exactly the kind of swamp-draining reform President Trump promised during his campaigns. While Democrats have spent years enriching themselves through insider knowledge, Republicans are finally stepping up to restore integrity to Congress.
The question now is whether Democrats will block this common-sense reform to protect their own financial interests, or if they'll finally put the American people first. Given Pelosi's track record and the left's history of opposing transparency, patriots shouldn't hold their breath.
Will Congress finally be forced to live by the same rules as the rest of us, or will the swamp creatures protect their golden goose? The American people are watching – and they won't forget come election time.
