New York Governor Kathy Hochul delivered what amounted to a campaign speech disguised as a State of the State address Tuesday, desperately trying to shore up her progressive credentials while launching preemptive attacks on President Trump's America First agenda.
With her reelection battle against Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman heating up, Hochul used the taxpayer-funded platform to rail against Trump's immigration operations and promise New York would resist federal efforts to secure our borders. Talk about misplaced priorities!
According to leaked copies of her speech obtained by NY1, Hochul plans to blast President Trump's immigration agenda and federal funding cuts while announcing that New York will use its own "medical experts" to set vaccine standards - a clear rejection of federal health guidance under the new administration.
"Copy of @GovKathyHochul's State of the State speech sent to @NY1 shows gov will blast @realDonaldTrump's immigration agenda, fed $$ cuts and @HHSGov's vaccine sked changes," reported journalist Kaitlynn Lisa on social media.
Instead of focusing on the real problems plaguing New Yorkers - skyrocketing crime, crushing taxes, and businesses fleeing the state - Hochul rolled out a wishlist of progressive policies including expanded childcare programs and "affordability" measures that will likely burden taxpayers even more.
The timing couldn't be more transparent. With Trump back in the White House and Americans demanding secure borders and common-sense governance, Hochul is doubling down on the failed policies that have driven New York into the ground.
Empire State Resistance
Hochul's defiant stance against federal immigration enforcement shows exactly where her priorities lie - and it's not with law-abiding New Yorkers who want safe communities. While President Trump works to remove dangerous criminals and restore order to our immigration system, Hochul is preparing to obstruct justice at every turn.
This desperate political theater won't fool voters who are tired of New York's decline under Democratic leadership. Bruce Blakeman represents a real opportunity to bring sanity back to Albany and end the state's war on its own residents.
Will New Yorkers finally say enough is enough to Hochul's radical agenda, or will they continue accepting decline as their new normal?
