The Democratic Party is once again proving they'd rather virtue signal to their radical base than actually win elections, as progressive activists rally behind far-left candidate Analilia Mejia in New Jersey's competitive House race to replace Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill.
Mejia, who previously served as national political director for Bernie Sanders-style progressive campaigns, is gathering steam among the woke crowd despite representing everything moderate voters in the district rejected about the failed Biden agenda. The irony? Democrats are abandoning the very centrist approach that helped Sherrill win in the first place.
While President Trump's decisive 2024 victory sent shockwaves through the establishment, proving Americans are fed up with radical leftist policies, New Jersey Democrats apparently didn't get the memo. Instead of learning from their massive losses, they're doubling down on the same progressive extremism that drove working families away from their party.
Recipe for Republican Victory
This couldn't be better news for Republicans eyeing another House pickup in 2026. Sherrill managed to hold this seat by positioning herself as a moderate voice, but Mejia's progressive credentials make her toxic to the independent and moderate Democratic voters who determine elections in swing districts.
"The progressive movement is pushing candidates who are completely out of touch with mainstream America," said one Republican strategist familiar with the race. "If Democrats nominate Mejia, they're essentially handing us the seat."
The pattern is clear: when Democrats embrace their radical wing, they lose. When they try to appear moderate, they at least have a fighting chance.
Mejia's background in progressive activism will provide Republicans with endless ammunition, from her support for defunding police to her embrace of the Green New Deal policies that would devastate New Jersey's economy. Meanwhile, Trump's America First agenda continues gaining support among working-class voters who feel betrayed by Democratic extremism.
Will New Jersey Democrats wake up and choose electability over ideology? Or will they gift-wrap another House seat for Republicans who actually represent American values? Based on their track record, smart money is on another spectacular Democratic implosion.
