A liberal federal judge thought he could stop President Trump from defunding sanctuary states that harbor illegal immigrants - but Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie has other plans.
U.S. District Judge Arun Submaranian - an Obama appointee, naturally - issued a temporary ruling blocking Trump's executive order to cut federal social services funding to California, New York, Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado. These Democrat-controlled states have been openly defying federal immigration law while pocketing billions in taxpayer dollars.
But Massie isn't backing down. The constitutional conservative is proposing legislation that would give Trump the power to circumvent activist judges who think they can override the will of the American people.
Trump's Common Sense Approach
The President's reasoning is crystal clear: "If you won't show us a plan, a workable plan, we're gonna cut it off until you do." Why should hardworking Americans in law-abiding states subsidize sanctuary jurisdictions that roll out the red carpet for criminal aliens?
These five states have created a magnet for illegal immigration while refusing to cooperate with ICE and Border Patrol. They want to have their cake and eat it too - harboring illegals while demanding federal cash to clean up the mess they created.
The rampant fraud in Minnesota and other Democratic states has reached a breaking point, with taxpayer dollars flowing to programs that directly undermine federal law.
This is exactly the kind of creative constitutional thinking we need from Republicans in Congress. For too long, activist judges appointed by Democrat presidents have acted as a shadow government, blocking every common-sense policy that puts America First.
The Deep State Strikes Back
Judge Submaranian's ruling is just the latest example of the administrative state trying to tie Trump's hands. These unelected bureaucrats in robes think they know better than the 75 million Americans who voted for mass deportations and secure borders.
Massie's proposal would restore the proper balance of power and give the executive branch the tools it needs to enforce immigration law. Patriots across the country should be calling their representatives to support this brilliant end-run around judicial activism.
