Another day, another Democrat stepping on a rake while trying to score cheap political points against the Trump administration.
A New York Democrat senator thought they could embarrass newly-appointed Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins by challenging her assertion that Americans could eat a nutritious meal for $3 consisting of chicken, a tortilla, and broccoli. The liberal lawmaker smugly asked whether $15 could actually feed a person for a day, apparently thinking they had set up the perfect 'gotcha' moment.
Instead, the Democrat got absolutely obliterated on social media by real Americans who weren't buying the performative outrage.
"Tell us you're an out-of-touch elite politician without saying you're an out-of-touch elite politician," one user fired back at the New York senator.
The backlash was swift and brutal. Working-class Americans flooded the comments, sharing their own experiences of stretching food budgets and making nutritious meals on tight budgets – something millions of families do every day while Democrats live in their ivory towers.
Secretary Rollins, who clearly understands the real challenges facing American families, defended her practical approach to helping families maximize their food assistance benefits. Her $3 meal example – chicken, tortilla, and broccoli – is exactly the kind of common-sense nutrition guidance that actually helps people instead of just virtue signaling.
But here's what really exposes the Democrat's hypocrisy: while they're busy attacking Trump administration officials for being "out of touch," they're the ones who have never had to count pennies at the grocery store. These are the same elites who think a banana costs $10 and have no clue what working families face every day.
The Trump administration is focused on practical solutions that empower Americans to make the most of their benefits, not empty political theater. Secretary Rollins understands that teaching families how to eat nutritiously on a budget is far more valuable than Democrat politicians' crocodile tears about poverty.
Once again, the left's attempt at a political ambush backfired spectacularly. Maybe next time these Democrat elites should check their privilege before trying to lecture Trump officials who actually understand what real Americans are going through.
