Finally, a California Democrat with a backbone! San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is making waves in the Golden State's gubernatorial race by doing something his fellow Democrats have been too cowardly to do: telling the truth about Gavin Newsom's catastrophic failures.

While other Democratic contenders have been tiptoeing around Newsom like scared children, offering nothing but wimpy policy disagreements and polite suggestions, Mahan is stepping up to the plate with real criticism of the governor's disastrous record. And folks, it's about time someone in that party acknowledged the obvious.

With less than four months until the primary election, California's crowded field of Democratic hopefuls has been playing it safe, apparently hoping voters won't notice the absolute mess Newsom has made of America's most populous state. But Mahan? He's betting that California voters are finally fed up with the status quo.

The Smart Money Says Newsom's Toast

Here's what's really happening: even Democrats in California are waking up to the reality that Newsom's policies have been an unmitigated disaster. From the homeless crisis that's turned San Francisco into a third-world nightmare, to the energy policies that have Californians paying through the nose for electricity, to the business-killing regulations that have sent companies fleeing to Texas and Florida in droves.

"The emperor has no clothes, and Mahan is the first Democrat brave enough to say it out loud."

Mahan's calculated risk to distance himself from Newsom shows he understands what the political establishment refuses to acknowledge: California voters are desperate for change, even if it means breaking ranks with their own party's failed leadership.

This could be the crack in the dam that Trump and the America First movement have been waiting for. When even California Democrats start admitting their policies don't work, you know the tide is turning.

The question is: will other Democratic candidates find the courage to join Mahan in speaking truth to power, or will they continue to enable Newsom's failed legacy?

When you're losing Democratic mayors in your own state, you know your policies are failing spectacularly. Wonder how long before more Democrats start jumping ship?

Finally! It's about time someone from their own party called out Newsom's disaster of a leadership. San Jose has been dealing with the homeless crisis while Sacramento does nothing but virtue signal.

Exactly right Mike. I live in the Bay Area and it's gotten so bad that even Democrats can't ignore it anymore.

Good for the San Jose mayor for putting constituents over party politics. My daughter moved out of California last year because she couldn't afford to live there despite having a good tech job - that should tell you everything about Newsom's economic policies.

Same story with my son. These politicians don't care until it affects their own political survival.
