House Republicans are playing with fire after successfully compelling Bill and Hillary Clinton to testify before Congress about their Epstein connections - a move that could spectacularly backfire by handing Democrats the perfect precedent to drag President Trump before hostile committees.
The Clintons are scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee in late February, marking a rare instance of former presidents and cabinet officials being compelled to testify. But patriots are asking: did Republicans just walk into a trap?
Trump Sounds the Alarm
President Trump himself appears concerned about the precedent being set. According to social media reports, Trump has called it "a SHAME that the Republicans are making the Clintons testify in Congress," suggesting GOP lawmakers "were all lied to" about the strategy.
The President's instincts may be spot-on. Democrats are already circling like vultures, with CNN's Manu Raju pressing House Speaker Mike Johnson about whether Trump should be "called to testify before Congress about Epstein, just like the Clintons."
Johnson's response was telling: "The president submits to press inquiries every day." When Raju shot back "Not under oath," Johnson could only deflect: "But he's asked the questions all the time and he answers them."
"What this shows is the dangerous game Republicans are playing. They think they're scoring points against the Clintons, but they're actually loading the gun that Democrats will use against Trump."
Setting a Dangerous Precedent
While Americans certainly deserve answers about the Clintons' cozy relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, the timing couldn't be worse. With Trump back in the White House implementing his America First agenda, the last thing patriots need is Republicans handing Democrats a roadmap for harassment.
This reeks of the same short-sighted thinking that has plagued establishment Republicans for decades - they're so focused on yesterday's battles that they can't see the incoming artillery.
The question now is whether Speaker Johnson and House Republicans will wake up before they give Chuck Schumer and the Democrats exactly what they need to turn Trump's second term into a circus of congressional theatrics. Patriots didn't vote for Republican self-sabotage.
