Elon Musk has thrown his considerable weight behind a growing conservative movement demanding Senate Majority Leader John Thune force Democrats into a grueling talking filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act – legislation that would finally require proof of U.S. citizenship and photo ID to vote in federal elections.
The world's richest man and Trump's efficiency czar isn't mincing words: it's time to use every parliamentary tool available to secure our elections, even if it means making Democrats talk until they collapse.
"The filibuster rule is meant to allow senators to present their arguments, not to kill legislation without debate,"
Musk argued, echoing what millions of Americans have been screaming for years. Why should common-sense election security measures die in the shadows when we could force Democrats to publicly defend their opposition to voter ID on live television?
The SAVE Act: What Democrats Don't Want You to Know
The SAVE America Act represents everything the left fears most – actual election integrity. The bill would require Americans to prove they're citizens before voting in federal elections and show photo ID at the polls. You know, the same requirements needed to buy alcohol, board a plane, or enter a federal building.
But Democrats would rather let this die quietly than face the embarrassment of explaining to voters why they think requiring proof of citizenship is somehow "voter suppression." That's exactly why Musk and other conservatives are pushing Thune to force the talking filibuster.
Under current Senate rules, Democrats can simply threaten a filibuster and kill legislation without ever having to stand up and defend their position. A talking filibuster would force them to hold the floor continuously, speaking non-stop until they physically can't continue.
Will Thune Have the Backbone?
The real question isn't whether this strategy would work – it's whether Majority Leader Thune has the spine to use it. Republicans have been handed the keys to the kingdom with control of both chambers and the White House. Americans didn't vote for more parliamentary games and gentleman's agreements.
They voted for results. They voted to secure our elections, seal our borders, and drain the swamp. If that means making Chuck Schumer talk for 20 hours straight about why he opposes voter ID, so be it.
The American people deserve to see exactly where their representatives stand on election integrity. Will Thune give them that transparency, or will he let another opportunity slip away?
