Team USA women's hockey captain Hilary Knight has decided to bite the hand that feeds her, launching a bitter attack on President Donald Trump after he graciously offered to invite both the men's and women's Olympic hockey teams to the State of the Union address.
Knight, who became Team USA's all-time leading scorer in women's Olympic hockey in 2026, couldn't just accept the honor with grace. Instead, she went full feminist warrior mode, calling Trump's remarks "distasteful" and turning what should have been a celebration into a "teaching moment" about her perceived victimhood.
The manufactured outrage stems from Trump's lighthearted comment to the men's team: "We're going to have to bring the women's team." Any reasonable person would recognize this as the president acknowledging both teams deserve recognition. But not Knight – she saw an opportunity to grandstand and took it.
"I think that's being overshadowed by sort of a quick lapse," Knight complained, apparently unable to appreciate that the Commander-in-Chief wants to honor American Olympic athletes at our nation's most prestigious political event.
This is exactly the kind of woke nonsense that has infected American sports. Here we have a president who could easily ignore Olympic athletes entirely, but instead chooses to celebrate their achievements on the biggest stage possible. And how does Knight respond? With ingratitude and political posturing.
It's particularly rich coming from someone whose sport relies heavily on government funding and support. The same administration Knight is attacking is the one that will determine future Olympic funding and support for USA Hockey programs.
While Trump is focused on putting America First and celebrating our nation's achievements on the world stage, Knight is more interested in playing victim and pushing divisive identity politics. She's turned what should be a unifying moment for American sports into another opportunity for leftist grievance mongering.
Patriots are getting tired of athletes who can't separate their political activism from representing our great nation. Maybe Knight should focus on being grateful for the opportunity to compete for America instead of looking for reasons to be offended by the president who wants to honor her achievements.
