The Republican-controlled Senate just showed America exactly where their priorities lie – and it's not with election integrity. While Sen. Thom Tillis managed to fast-track a resolution for his precious dog parade through the Hart Senate building, the critical SAVE Act continues to collect dust.
On February 12th, the Senate rubber-stamped Tillis' feel-good resolution allowing "use of the atrium in the Philip A. Hart Senate office building" for what amounts to political theater with four-legged props. Meanwhile, legislation designed to prevent non-citizens from voting in American elections? Apparently that's not urgent enough for the GOP establishment.
This is exactly the kind of tone-deaf leadership that drove Americans to elect Donald Trump twice. While President Trump is delivering on mass deportations and border security, Senate Republicans are worried about photo ops with golden retrievers.
Election Integrity Takes Back Seat to Photo Ops
The SAVE Act would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections – common sense legislation that enjoys massive support among actual Americans. But somehow Tillis and his colleagues can't find time in their busy schedule of dog parades to protect the fundamental right of citizens to have their votes count.
"This is why Americans don't trust the Republican establishment. They'll move heaven and earth for a dog show but can't be bothered to secure our elections," one conservative activist told Next News Network.
It's worth noting that Tillis has a history of disappointing conservatives, often siding with the establishment wing over America First priorities. This latest stunt perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with the GOP's old guard mentality.
President Trump campaigned on draining the swamp and putting America First. Senate Republicans campaigning on cute puppy parades while ignoring election integrity shows they still don't get the message voters sent loud and clear in 2024.
How many more dog parades will it take before Senate Republicans realize Americans want action on the issues that actually matter to our republic's survival?
