The Democrat Party's internal war between establishment elites and radical progressives is heating up in Maine, where far-left outsider Graham Platner has secured his second senatorial endorsement in a brewing primary battle against sitting Governor Janet Mills for the state's Senate seat.
Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) joined socialist Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Monday in backing Platner, signaling that progressive forces are ready to take down even their own party's sitting governor if she's not radical enough for their agenda.
"Graham Platner is the kind of fighter Maine hasn't seen in a long time," Gallego said in his endorsement, though what exactly Maine needs to "fight" remains unclear to most hardworking Americans.
This primary challenge represents everything wrong with today's Democrat Party - they're so busy moving further left that even liberal governors like Mills aren't progressive enough anymore. While President Trump focuses on securing our border and bringing jobs back to American workers, Democrats are eating their own in ideological purity tests.
Progressive Purity Test
The Sanders-Gallego backing of Platner sends a clear message: the socialist wing of the Democrat Party isn't satisfied with incremental leftism. They want full-blown progressive transformation, and they're willing to primary sitting governors to get it.
For Maine voters, this presents an interesting opportunity. A nasty Democrat primary could weaken whoever emerges as their nominee, potentially opening the door for a strong Republican challenger to flip this seat red.
"This is what happens when the radical left runs out of Republicans to attack - they start cannibalizing their own party," noted one GOP strategist.
While Democrats fight amongst themselves over who can be more progressive, President Trump continues delivering real results for American families. The contrast couldn't be clearer: one party focused on ideology, another focused on results.
Will Maine Democrats choose establishment liberalism or full socialism? Either way, it's a win for conservatives watching the left tear itself apart.
