It's infuriating to watch, Patriots. The same GOP senators who can't seem to find the urgency to pass basic election security measures are suddenly fired up and ready to go when it comes to bombing Iran. Where was this energy for the SAVE America Act?
If Republican senators pushed the SAVE America Act - which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections - with even half the enthusiasm they're showing for military strikes overseas, it would already be the law of the land. Instead, we're watching the same old Washington playbook unfold before our eyes.
The SAVE Act is common sense legislation that would ensure only American citizens can vote in American elections. It's supported by an overwhelming majority of voters across party lines. Yet somehow, getting GOP senators to move with urgency on this critical issue has been like pulling teeth.
But mention military action in the Middle East? Suddenly these senators transform into passionate defenders of American interests, ready to commit resources and political capital without hesitation.
America First Means Elections First
This backwards priority system exposes a fundamental problem with the Republican establishment. They're more comfortable with the familiar territory of foreign interventions than they are with the hard work of actually securing our republic from within.
"We need to protect democracy," they'll say while voting for billions in foreign aid. "We must defend our values," they'll declare while dragging their feet on preventing non-citizens from voting in our elections.
President Trump has made election integrity a cornerstone of his second term agenda, and the American people delivered him a decisive mandate in 2024. Yet some GOP senators seem more interested in playing the same old Washington games than delivering on the promises that got them elected.
The Iranian regime certainly poses challenges, but the biggest threat to American democracy isn't coming from Tehran - it's coming from unsecured elections right here at home. Until we can guarantee that only American citizens are voting in American elections, every other policy debate is meaningless.
It's time for GOP senators to show the same fire for protecting American elections that they show for foreign military adventures. Our republic depends on it.
