While GOP senators trip over themselves to greenlight military action against Iran, these same so-called conservatives can't find the urgency to pass the SAVE America Act—legislation that would actually protect our nation from foreign interference in our elections.
The hypocrisy is stunning. Watch these senators on Sunday morning shows, breathlessly calling for immediate action against Tehran, demanding we "send a message" to our enemies abroad. Yet when it comes to sending a message to foreign nationals trying to vote illegally in American elections? Crickets.
The SAVE Act would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections—a common-sense measure that 85% of Americans support. But apparently, bombing Iran gets Republican blood pumping faster than securing the ballot box that determines our entire future as a constitutional republic.
Priorities Completely Backwards
"If GOP senators pushed the SAVE America Act with the same urgency and full-throated support with which they've backed the decision to strike Iran, it would already be law," political analysts are pointing out, and they're absolutely right.
President Trump has made election integrity a cornerstone of his second term, yet some Republican senators seem more interested in flexing America's military muscle overseas than protecting America's democratic muscle at home. These are the same senators who spent years complaining about foreign election interference, but when handed a bill to actually stop it, they suddenly develop concerns about "process" and "timing."
Meanwhile, Democrats are laughing all the way to the ballot harvesting operation, knowing they can count on weak-kneed Republicans to prioritize foreign conflicts over domestic election security.
"We can authorize military strikes in 48 hours, but we can't require citizenship verification for voting? What kind of backwards priorities are these?"
The American people deserve senators who fight as hard for election integrity as they do for military interventions. We need leaders who understand that securing our elections IS national security—arguably more important than any overseas conflict.
It's time for GOP senators to show the same spine on the SAVE Act that they show when demanding military action. Because what good is projecting strength abroad if we can't even protect the integrity of our own elections at home?
