President Donald Trump dropped a major Cabinet shakeup announcement Monday, revealing on Truth Social that he intends to nominate Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) as the next Secretary of Homeland Security, replacing current Secretary Kristi Noem.
"I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected United States Senator from the Great State of Oklahoma, Markwayne Mullin, will become the United States Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), effective March 31, 2026," Trump wrote in his Truth Social post. "The current Secretary, Kristi Noem, who has served us well, and has had numerous achievements..."
The announcement sent shockwaves through Washington, with reporters immediately swarming Mullin for comment. Video footage shared by former West Virginia delegate Derrick Evans showed the Oklahoma Senator being mobbed by media as news of his nomination broke.
But not everyone is celebrating the Cabinet reshuffle. Social media reactions revealed mixed feelings about the move, with some questioning both the timing and the choice. One Twitter user noted the constitutional process, writing: "Cable news ought to know that Trump cannot 'appoint' a Cabinet Secretary. He can nominate one. It has to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. That will take some time. Mullin will have to resign from the Senate if he becomes DHS Secretary."
Another critic was even more blunt, posting: "I'm not fan of Noem but Mullin is a disaster, I'm sure he'll get the nomination from Congress because they don't want him around anymore."
What This Means for Border Security
The move comes as Trump's mass deportation agenda continues to ramp up nationwide. Mullin, a former MMA fighter and businessman before entering politics, will need to hit the ground running on Day One if confirmed by the Senate.
With Republicans controlling the Senate, confirmation should be straightforward - but the timing means Mullin will have to navigate both his confirmation hearings and resignation from the upper chamber in the coming weeks.
Is this the Cabinet shake-up America needs to secure our borders once and for all? Only time will tell if Mullin can deliver where others have struggled.
