Remember when Americans could share a genuine laugh without checking their privilege or worrying about offending the perpetually outraged left? Those days feel like a distant memory, but they weren't that long ago.

Take Ashlee Simpson's infamous 2004 Saturday Night Live lip-syncing disaster. When her backing track started playing the wrong song during her second performance, she did an awkward little jig and walked off stage. The whole country laughed - not AT her, but WITH the absurdity of live television. Republicans, Democrats, your liberal aunt, your conservative uncle - everyone found it hilarious.

Or consider Monty Python's Flying Circus. British absurdist comedy that somehow united American audiences across political lines. The Dead Parrot sketch, the Ministry of Silly Walks - comedy gold that transcended ideology because it was just... funny. No political messaging, no virtue signaling, just pure entertainment.

When Did We Stop Laughing Together?

Fast forward to today under the lingering effects of Biden's divisive presidency, and comedy has become another battlefield in the culture war. Try making a harmless joke and the woke mob descends faster than you can say "cancel culture." Comedians need security details. Late-night hosts have become DNC propagandists. SNL is unwatchable political theater.

The left's obsession with identity politics has poisoned the well of American humor. Everything must be filtered through the lens of race, gender, or whatever protected class is trending on Twitter this week. God forbid you make a joke that doesn't align with their ever-shifting orthodoxy.

"Comedy is supposed to bring people together, not divide them into oppressor and oppressed categories," one entertainment insider told us.

President Trump's return offers hope for restoring American unity, but the damage runs deep. When a simple SNL blooper becomes nostalgic for "simpler times," you know the cultural Marxists have succeeded in fracturing our national spirit.

Perhaps it's time to reclaim comedy from the humorless scolds who've turned laughter into a hate crime. After all, a country that can't laugh together probably can't survive together much longer.

This is exactly what I've been saying! Comedy used to bring everyone together regardless of political differences. Now comedians are walking on eggshells terrified of offending someone.

When did making people laugh become controversial? The best comedians throughout history pushed boundaries and made us think while we laughed.

Exactly! Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Don Rickles - they could joke about anything and audiences loved it.

This hits home. My kids don't understand why I find old comedy shows so funny - they've been trained to see everything as problematic instead of just enjoying the humor.

I miss the days when comedy clubs were about having a good time instead of virtue signaling. Does anyone know if there are any comedians today who still do real comedy without the woke nonsense?

My husband and I used to watch comedy specials together and laugh until we cried. These days we can barely find anything that isn't preachy or offensive in the other direction.
