The political dynasty machine is firing up again in Virginia as Dorothy McAuliffe, wife of failed gubernatorial candidate and former Governor Terry McAuliffe, officially threw her hat into the ring for Virginia's 7th Congressional District Democratic primary on Wednesday.
That's right, Patriots – the same family that brought Virginia parents the infamous declaration that they shouldn't have a say in their children's education is now looking to extend their political influence to Congress. Because apparently, one McAuliffe meddling in Virginia politics just isn't enough.
Dorothy McAuliffe's entry into what's already being described as a "crowded" Democratic primary shows just how desperate the left has become to maintain their stranglehold on Virginia politics. With Terry McAuliffe suffering a humiliating defeat to Glenn Youngkin in 2021 after his disastrous comments about parental rights in education, the family is clearly hoping voters have short memories.
Dynasty Politics at Its Worst
This is exactly the kind of political nepotism that President Trump has been fighting against throughout his presidency. While the Trump-Vance administration works tirelessly to drain the swamp and return power to We the People, establishment Democrats like the McAuliffes continue to treat political offices like family heirlooms to be passed around.
Virginia's 7th District deserves better than another career politician's spouse looking to cash in on name recognition. The district needs a representative who will stand with President Trump's America First agenda, not someone connected to the same political machine that told parents they have no business questioning what their children learn in school.
"Virginia families remember Terry McAuliffe's anti-parent agenda, and they won't be fooled by putting his wife on the ballot instead," one local GOP strategist told reporters.
As the 2026 midterms approach, races like this will be crucial tests of whether Americans are ready to fully embrace President Trump's vision of putting America First, or if they'll fall back into the same old patterns of electing political dynasties and swamp creatures.
Will Virginia voters see through this transparent attempt at political dynasty building, or will the McAuliffe machine successfully rebrand itself for another generation?
