President Trump's Department of Justice delivered a crushing blow to California's green energy tyranny Thursday, filing a federal lawsuit to stop the Golden State's "illegal" electric vehicle mandate dead in its tracks.

The DOJ lawsuit, filed on behalf of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, argues that California's heavy-handed EV regulations violate the Energy Policy and Conservation Act—a federal law that explicitly prohibits state governments from imposing their own fuel economy mandates on American drivers.

This is exactly the kind of constitutional enforcement patriots voted for when they put Trump back in the White House. While the Biden regime rolled over and let California dictate energy policy for the entire nation, the Trump-Vance administration is fighting back against state-level tyranny.

California's Unconstitutional Power Grab

For too long, California has acted like it can override federal authority and force its radical climate agenda down the throats of American consumers. The state's EV mandate essentially eliminates consumer choice, forcing families to buy expensive electric vehicles whether they want them or not.

But here's what the liberal media won't tell you: these mandates don't just hurt California residents. Because of California's massive auto market, their regulations effectively become national policy, forcing automakers to comply with Sacramento's green fantasies instead of what consumers actually demand.

"California cannot simply ignore federal law when it doesn't align with their political agenda," a DOJ source told reporters.

This lawsuit represents everything Trump promised during his campaign—using federal power to protect individual liberty and constitutional governance, not expand government control over everyday Americans.

States' Rights vs. Federal Supremacy

The Energy Policy and Conservation Act exists for a reason: to prevent exactly this kind of state-level overreach. When California tries to set national fuel standards through the back door, they're violating the constitutional principle of federal supremacy in interstate commerce.

Attorney General Pam Bondi's DOJ is sending a clear message: the days of blue state governors acting like mini-dictators are over. Will other Republican governors finally follow Trump's lead and stand up to California's illegal power grabs?

Good luck charging your Tesla when you live 50 miles from the nearest charging station! These politicians have no clue what life is like outside their liberal bubbles.

FINALLY! About time someone stood up to California's overreach. The federal government needs to protect us from these radical mandates that hurt working families.

Agreed! California thinks it can dictate policy for the whole country. Not on Trump's watch!

Question: Can someone explain the legal basis for this lawsuit? I'm curious about which specific federal laws California is violating with this EV mandate.

This is exactly why I voted for Trump. States like California need to be reined in when they try to force their radical agenda on everyone else.

I work in the oil industry and this EV push is killing American jobs. We have the cleanest fossil fuel technology in the world - why are we abandoning our energy independence?

Exactly right! I spent 30 years building America's energy infrastructure and now they want to throw it all away for Chinese batteries.

YES! This is what real leadership looks like!

I work at a Ford dealership and let me tell you - customers are NOT asking for EVs. They're too expensive and the infrastructure isn't there. This mandate is completely out of touch with reality.

Same here! I've been working on cars for 25 years and EVs are a maintenance nightmare. Plus where I live there's maybe 2 charging stations in the whole county.

The government shouldn't be picking winners and losers in the marketplace. Let consumers decide what vehicles they want to buy, not California bureaucrats.
