The hypocrisy of Virginia's Democrat-controlled legislature has reached stunning new heights with the passage of SB 749, a backdoor ban on AR-15 rifles that includes a jaw-dropping carve-out: state legislators literally exempted themselves from their own gun control law.

The bill, which now sits on Governor Abigail Spanberger's desk awaiting her signature, would ban the sale, import, manufacture, purchase, and transfer of so-called "assault firearms" along with magazines holding 15 rounds or more. But here's the kicker – while ordinary Virginians would be stripped of their Second Amendment rights, the political elite who wrote this unconstitutional garbage made sure they could still arm themselves.

Rules for Thee, But Not for Me

This is exactly the kind of authoritarian overreach that has Patriots across Virginia fired up and ready to fight back. These same legislators who lecture working families about "gun safety" apparently believe they're more deserving of constitutional protections than the very people they claim to represent.

The timing couldn't be more telling. Just weeks into President Trump's second term, as his administration works to restore constitutional freedoms nationwide, Virginia Democrats are doubling down on their assault against law-abiding gun owners. But their naked hypocrisy – exempting themselves while disarming everyone else – exposes the real agenda: control, not safety.

"This isn't about reducing crime or protecting anyone. This is about creating a two-tiered system where politicians get special privileges while hardworking Virginians lose their rights."

SB 749 represents everything wrong with the current political establishment. These are the same people who probably have armed security details while telling single mothers in Richmond they can't protect their families with an AR-15.

Governor Spanberger now faces a choice: sign this hypocritical assault on the Second Amendment, or stand with Virginia Patriots who refuse to be treated as second-class citizens in their own state.

Will Virginians stand for this blatant double standard, or will they make their voices heard before it's too late?

Absolutely disgusting!

Can someone explain how this exemption is even legal? If these weapons are supposedly so dangerous, why should politicians be allowed to have them?

This proves it was never about safety - it's about control. If they really believed these guns were dangerous, they wouldn't exempt themselves.

This is why I moved my family out of NoVA last year. The double standards are getting worse every session.

Smart move! We're looking at Tennessee ourselves.

Typical Democrat hypocrisy! Rules for thee but not for me. This is exactly why we can't trust them with our constitutional rights.

They always exempt themselves from the laws they force on us regular citizens. Disgusting!

I've been following this legislation closely and saw this exemption buried in the fine print. How many Virginians actually know their representatives can keep what they're trying to ban for us?

I've been a competitive shooter for 15 years and these politicians don't even understand the weapons they're trying to ban. Now they want special privileges too? Vote them out!
