Just three weeks into President Trump's second term, we're already seeing disturbing signs that some Republicans are ready to roll over for Democrat demands instead of standing firm on America First principles.
Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) appeared on Fox News Monday night and casually admitted that Republicans are essentially giving Democrats everything they want in DHS shutdown negotiations. "We're giving them their asks," McCormick told Jesse Watters, listing off concessions including "bodycams for everybody, training on de-escalation, inspections and dollars."
Wait, what? Since when do Republicans negotiate by starting with complete surrender?
This is exactly the kind of weak-kneed, establishment GOP behavior that drove millions of Americans to vote for Trump in the first place. We didn't elect a Republican majority to hand Democrats their wish list on a silver platter.
Where's the Fight for Border Security?
While McCormick is busy making nice with Democrats over "de-escalation training," our border is still being overrun by illegal immigrants. President Trump has made mass deportation and border security the cornerstone of his second term agenda - so why are Senate Republicans focused on appeasing the same Democrats who created this crisis?
"We're giving them their asks on DHS, including inspections of facilities," McCormick said, as if that's something to be proud of.
Patriots across Pennsylvania and America are watching, Senator McCormick. They didn't send you to Washington to be Chuck Schumer's best friend. They sent you there to secure our border, deport criminal aliens, and restore law and order.
This kind of capitulation is precisely why Trump needs to keep a tight leash on congressional Republicans. The establishment wing of the party still doesn't understand that the days of gentleman's agreements and bipartisan back-scratching are over.
Will McCormick stand with Trump's America First agenda, or will he continue down this path of preemptive surrender? Pennsylvania voters deserve better than another RINO in Republican clothing.
