Senate Majority Leader John Thune is already showing his true RINO colors, telling the Washington Examiner he opposes holding a vote to eliminate the filibuster that could clear the path for President Trump's landmark election reform bill.
In an exclusive interview, the South Dakota Republican admitted he won't put his own conference on record regarding the legislative filibuster, claiming it would be "counterproductive" and stoke divisions within the GOP. Translation? Thune is more worried about protecting weak Republicans than delivering on Trump's America First agenda.
"I don't think that serves anybody's interest," Thune said, apparently forgetting that serving the American people's interest in secure elections should be his top priority.
"This is exactly the kind of swamp behavior that President Trump was elected to drain. While Trump is fighting to secure our elections, Thune is worried about hurt feelings in the Republican conference."
The filibuster has become Democrats' favorite weapon to obstruct conservative legislation, allowing them to kill bills with just 41 votes instead of requiring an actual majority. For decades, Republicans have been too timid to use their power when they have it, while Democrats routinely threaten to nuke the filibuster whenever it suits their radical agenda.
President Trump's election integrity bill would implement common-sense reforms like voter ID requirements, signature verification, and updated voter rolls – measures supported by overwhelming majorities of Americans across party lines. But instead of fighting for these crucial protections, Thune is already waving the white flag.
Patriots Deserve Better Leadership
This is precisely why the MAGA movement exists – to replace weak establishment Republicans who care more about maintaining Senate "traditions" than delivering results for the American people. While Trump spent four years battling the Deep State and fake news media, too many GOP senators were content to play parliamentary games.
Republicans control the Senate, the House, and the White House. If they can't pass election security legislation now, when exactly do they plan to do it? Are we supposed to wait until Democrats regain power and eliminate the filibuster themselves to ram through their socialist wishlist?
The American people gave Republicans a mandate in 2024. It's time for leaders like Thune to stop making excuses and start delivering – or get out of the way for someone who will.
