Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is standing firm on his relationship with President Trump, telling the Washington Examiner exclusively that disagreements over Senate rules won't derail their partnership as Republicans work to deliver on the America First agenda.
"I think the president understands, he's got a job, I have a job," Thune explained, taking what he calls a "long view" of their working relationship despite recent tensions over the filibuster and Trump's SAVE America Act priorities.
The friction comes as President Trump pushes Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster to ram through his signature immigration and election integrity legislation. But Thune—who defeated Trump-backed Rick Scott for the majority leader position—has been cautious about nuking the 60-vote threshold that has historically protected minority rights in the upper chamber.
Establishment vs. MAGA Priorities
This isn't just about Senate rules, Patriots. It's about whether the Republican establishment will finally deliver the bold reforms that American voters demanded when they handed Trump a decisive victory in 2024. The SAVE America Act represents core MAGA priorities: securing our elections, deporting illegal aliens, and putting America First.
While Thune talks about maintaining a "constructive partnership," many Trump supporters are asking: will Senate Republicans actually fight for the agenda they were elected to implement, or will they hide behind procedural excuses while our country continues to be invaded?
"The president understands the Senate has its own institutional responsibilities, but we're committed to advancing his priorities through whatever means necessary," a Senate GOP leadership aide told Next News Network.
Trump has made clear he expects results, not excuses. After eight years of watching Republicans talk big during campaigns only to fold when it matters, the President knows that eliminating the filibuster might be the only way to save America from the Biden regime's devastating policies.
The question remains: will Thune and the Senate GOP prove they're truly committed to the MAGA agenda, or will they prioritize Washington traditions over the will of the American people who voted for real change?
