Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is facing mounting pressure to honor an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer request against an illegal alien accused of gunning down 18-year-old college student Sheridan Gorman – but the sanctuary state Democrat is refusing to commit.
Gorman, a student at Loyola University Chicago, was brutally murdered around 1 a.m. Thursday while innocently walking with friends to view the northern lights. Her young life was cut short by yet another preventable tragedy that sanctuary policies have enabled across America.
The suspect, whose illegal presence in our country should have resulted in deportation long ago, now sits in custody while Pritzker and his radical sanctuary politicians play games with public safety. When pressed about honoring the ICE detainer, Pritzker's office has remained conspicuously silent.
Another Preventable Sanctuary City Murder
This is exactly what President Trump warned about during his campaign – and why his administration is now implementing the largest deportation operation in American history. While Trump fights to secure our borders and remove dangerous criminals, Democrat governors like Pritzker continue prioritizing illegal aliens over innocent American citizens.
How many more Sheridan Gormans must die before these sanctuary state politicians wake up? This bright young woman had her entire future ahead of her, dreams to pursue, a family who loved her. Instead, she's another casualty of the left's reckless open-border ideology.
"We are calling on Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago's sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing" the suspect, advocates demanded.
The silence from Pritzker's office speaks volumes. Every day he delays honoring this ICE detainer is another day he chooses to protect criminal illegal aliens over law-abiding Americans. It's a disgrace that should outrage every parent, every student, every citizen who believes in basic public safety.
President Trump's ICE agents are ready to do their job – if only sanctuary state Democrats would stop obstructing justice. The question isn't whether Pritzker CAN honor this detainer – it's whether he WILL choose Americans over his radical base. Sheridan Gorman's family deserves an answer, and they deserve justice.
