One of the most scandal-ridden political figures in recent memory is trying to pull off the ultimate political escape act. Tiffany Henyard, the disgraced former Democratic mayor of Dolton, Illinois, has packed her bags and fled to Georgia, where she's now plotting her political comeback — this time as a Republican.
In a Facebook video posted March 11th, the loud-mouthed former mayor announced her move to Fulton County, Georgia, declaring "You can't expect change without making a change" and boldly proclaiming "Y'all ain't ready." The audacity is breathtaking, even by Democrat standards.
Henyard's tenure as mayor of Dolton was nothing short of a disaster. The small Illinois town became synonymous with political corruption, financial mismanagement, and the kind of authoritarian overreach that Democrats specialize in. Her administration was plagued by scandals that would make even Chicago politicians blush.
Running From Her Record
Now this political chameleon thinks she can simply change her party registration and fool Georgia voters into forgetting her disastrous track record. It's the ultimate example of a career politician who will say anything and be anything to grab power.
"You can't expect change without making a change," Henyard proclaimed in her announcement video, apparently referring to her own political makeover.
But here's the reality check, folks: a leopard doesn't change its spots just because it moves to a new jungle. Henyard's history of corruption and incompetence won't magically disappear because she's crossed state lines and switched party labels.
This is exactly the kind of political opportunism that real conservatives need to guard against. The Republican Party doesn't need refugees from the Democrat party's culture of corruption — especially ones who think they can reinvent themselves overnight.
Georgia Republicans should be asking themselves: Do we really want someone who ran a Illinois town into the ground representing our values? The answer should be a resounding no.
