The mask came off Thursday when 47 Senate Democrats voted against a straightforward voter ID amendment, completely contradicting their previous public statements about supporting election security measures.
Senator Jon Husted (R-OH) introduced a simple amendment to the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act requiring photo identification to vote – something that an overwhelming majority of Americans support across party lines. The amendment allowed for standard forms of ID that every American already uses for basic activities like boarding planes, buying alcohol, or entering government buildings.
But here's where it gets infuriating, Patriots: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had previously claimed he was "supportive of photo ID" requirements. Yet when push came to shove, Schumer and 46 of his Democratic colleagues showed their true agenda by voting against this common-sense reform.
"This vote exposes the Democrats' real position on election integrity – they're against it," one Republican aide told reporters after the vote. "All their talk about supporting voter ID was just political theater."
This shouldn't surprise anyone who's been paying attention. Democrats have spent years claiming they support "election security" while simultaneously fighting every single measure that would actually secure our elections. They'll demand ID to get into their own political events, but somehow requiring the same basic verification to vote is "voter suppression."
The hypocrisy is staggering. These are the same people who spent four years screaming about "election integrity" and "foreign interference," yet they refuse to support the most basic safeguard that exists in virtually every other developed nation on Earth.
Americans Demand Better
Polling consistently shows that over 80% of Americans – including majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and independents – support voter ID requirements. But once again, the Washington establishment ignores the will of the people to protect their own political interests.
President Trump and the Republican Congress now have a clear mandate to pass real election integrity reforms. The question is: will they have the backbone to push these measures through despite Democratic obstruction, or will they let the swamp win again?
