While Department of Homeland Security employees struggle to pay their bills during this record-breaking government shutdown, Senate Democrats are brazenly defending their decision to take a two-week vacation instead of staying in Washington to do their jobs.
Senator Chris Coons, the Delaware Democrat who's become the poster child for Washington's disconnect from working Americans, had the audacity to defend the congressional recess by claiming lawmakers are "working in their home states." Tell that to the DHS employees who are protecting our borders without a paycheck, Senator.
This is exactly the kind of swamp behavior that President Trump was elected to drain. While our brave border patrol agents and immigration enforcement officers are working around the clock to secure our nation – without pay – these pampered politicians are enjoying their time off and pretending it's somehow productive.
Democrats Prioritize Politics Over People
The shutdown has now become the longest in American history, and what are Democrats doing about it? Taking a vacation. This isn't leadership – it's abandonment of duty at the highest level.
"These are the same people who lecture us about caring for federal workers, yet they're perfectly comfortable sipping wine in their home districts while those workers wonder how they'll make rent," one Republican aide told our network.
President Trump has remained in Washington, ready to negotiate and end this standoff. He's shown he's willing to work around the clock to get a deal that secures our border and gets federal employees back to work with full pay. Meanwhile, Democrats fled town.
The hypocrisy is staggering. These are the same Democrats who constantly virtue signal about being the party of working families. Yet when push comes to shove, they're nowhere to be found when working families need them most.
How long will hardworking Americans tolerate politicians who put their comfort above our national security and the wellbeing of federal employees? It's time to demand better from our so-called public servants.
