Patriots, while the mainstream media obsesses over gun control and the radical left tries to disarm law-abiding Americans, there's a story from our Revolutionary War that every freedom-loving citizen needs to remember. It's the tale of Timothy Murphy - a colonial sharpshooter whose incredible marksmanship literally saved our nation.
On October 7, 1777, at Bemis Heights near Saratoga, New York, Murphy was perched in a tree with his rifle. His orders from Colonel Daniel Morgan were crystal clear: "That gallant officer is General Fraser. I admire him, but it is of necessity that he must die. Do your duty." The British General Fraser, clearly visible in his scarlet uniform, was rallying his troops and turning the tide of battle against the Americans.
Here's what makes this shot legendary: Murphy had qualified as a sharpshooter by consistently hitting a 7-inch target at 250 yards. But Fraser was almost 300 yards away - an impossible shot by 18th century standards. Yet Murphy took aim, squeezed the trigger, and dropped the British general with a single bullet.
"What a shoot out from Holmes and Murphy. Murphy a mad man getting up from that and fighting fire with fire," posted @broomylfc on social media, capturing the fighting spirit that defines American marksmanship tradition.
That one shot changed everything. With Fraser dead, British morale collapsed. The Battle of Saratoga became the turning point that convinced France to join our cause. Without Timothy Murphy's rifle, there might not be a United States of America today.
This is exactly why our Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment - they understood that skilled American riflemen were the backbone of our liberty. While today's social media celebrates impressive shooting skills, as @Denny_Sawchuk noted praising "an amazing job" in marksmanship, we must remember that our rifle tradition goes back to the very birth of our nation.
As President Trump continues to defend our Constitutional rights against leftist attacks, every American should remember Timothy Murphy. Our rifles didn't just win our independence - they ARE our independence. The question every patriot must ask: Are you ready to defend the legacy that Murphy's rifle secured for us?
