In a stunning betrayal of Western allies, France joined Russia and China to block a United Nations Security Council resolution that would have authorized military action to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—the critical waterway that Iran has effectively seized control of, threatening global oil supplies.

The resolution, drafted by Bahrain on behalf of Gulf nations, sought to use international force to defend shipping lanes through which 20 percent of the world's oil passes. But instead of standing with America's longtime Arab partners, France chose to side with authoritarian regimes and Iran's terrorist government.

Social media erupted with outrage over France's duplicitous move. "Russia, China, and France blocked a UN Security Council resolution authorizing the use of force in the Strait of Hormuz," reported @Shivanandgupta0 on Twitter, highlighting how "20 percent of the world's oil passes" through the strategic waterway.

Another user, @Rajpal_BJP, called it "A Major Diplomatic Victory for Iran," noting that the proposal "for military action to open Strait of Hormuz in UN Security Council has been blocked by Russia, China & France without formal voting."

"Russia, China, and France have effectively blocked an Arab-backed effort proposed by Bahrain at the UN Security Council to authorize military action against Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz," reported @TTheBattlefield, citing New York Times coverage.

This betrayal comes at a time when President Trump is working to strengthen America's position in the Middle East and protect global energy security. While our Gulf allies sought legitimate international backing to defend their sovereign shipping rights, France—supposedly our NATO partner—chose to empower Iran's chokehold on global commerce.

The French decision exposes the weakness of European "allies" who talk tough about supporting democracy but cave to authoritarian pressure when it matters. Patriots should ask themselves: if France won't stand with us against Iran's maritime terrorism, what good is this alliance?

How long will America tolerate so-called allies who consistently undermine our strategic interests?

Can someone explain why France has any say in this matter? Shouldn't this be between the Gulf states and international maritime law?

This is exactly why we need energy independence! When foreign powers can manipulate oil chokepoints like this, America suffers.

My gas station prices went up 30 cents this week alone. Is this connected to the Hormuz situation?

The Gulf states have been way more reliable than France ever has been, that's for sure.

France is playing a dangerous game here. They're alienating our Saudi and UAE allies while emboldening the Iranian regime.

As someone who served in the Gulf, I can tell you that keeping the Strait open is absolutely critical for global oil flow. Iran has been playing games there for years and France is enabling them.

France has been nothing but trouble for decades. They're probably getting kickbacks from Iran while our gas prices skyrocket!
