As President Trump moves forward with his America First immigration agenda, Democrats are predictably shrieking about "racism" and "cruelty" — but they weren't always singing this tune. In fact, one of their most beloved leaders made the exact same arguments Trump is making today.
In 1993, the late Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada) — who would later become Senate Majority Leader — introduced legislation to end birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants. His reasoning? "How about offering an award for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that."
Those aren't the words of President Trump or Justice Sam Alito. That's a Democrat icon speaking common sense about a policy that incentivizes illegal border crossings and makes a mockery of our immigration laws.
"No sane country would give illegals citizenship," Reid declared, according to social media posts now going viral as Americans rediscover the Democrats' stunning hypocrisy.
Twitter user @jkeeter82 captured the absurdity perfectly: "Wow!! In 1993 Senator Harry Reid, democrat, introduced a bill to end birthright citizenship. That's weird because the democrats in 2026 say that ending birthright citizenship is racist."
Another user, @ResistItAllTX, didn't mince words about the Democrats' flip-flop: "Hey dirty scum @TheDemocrats why is it that you used to be sane and love America, as opposed to the illegal criminals you support over legal Americans?"
So what changed between 1993 and today? Simple: Democrats realized they could import a permanent voting base by abandoning American citizens in favor of illegal immigrants. They traded patriotism for political power.
The Great Democrat Betrayal
Reid's 1993 position wasn't controversial — it was common sense. The 14th Amendment was never intended to create citizenship tourism or reward illegal entry. It was designed to ensure freed slaves received citizenship after the Civil War.
But today's Democrats have weaponized birthright citizenship as part of their open borders agenda. They know that anchor babies create chain migration, family separations when parents face deportation, and a permanent underclass dependent on government services.
President Trump is simply finishing what Democrats like Harry Reid started — before they sold out America for votes. Patriots should ask themselves: if ending birthright citizenship was good policy for Democrats in 1993, why is it suddenly "racist" when Trump proposes it?
The answer reveals everything you need to know about today's radical Democrat Party.
