A Republican Texas state senator running for attorney general is facing intense scrutiny after it was revealed he authored legislation that would strip local communities of their power to block religious housing developments - including the creation of Islamic cities governed by Sharia law.

State Sen. Mayes Middleton filed Senate Bill 854 in January 2025, marketing it as a solution to Texas' housing shortage. But patriots across the Lone Star State are asking a troubling question: why would a so-called conservative Republican push legislation that could pave the way for foreign legal systems to take root in American communities?

The bill would have essentially tied the hands of local governments, preventing them from using zoning laws and other municipal powers to protect their communities from developments that residents don't want. Under Middleton's proposal, religious groups could steamroll local opposition and establish segregated enclaves - potentially operating under religious law rather than American constitutional principles.

"MY TEXAS FRIENDS KNOW THIS NAME.. STATE SEN. MAYES MIDDLETON! AUTHORED A BILL THAT WOULD STRIP LOCAL GOVERNMENTS OF THEIR ABILITY TO BLOCK RELIGIOUS HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS, INCLUDING THE CREATION OF ISLAMIC CITIES," warned social media user @MrLuigiMucci, highlighting the concerning implications.

This revelation raises serious questions about Middleton's judgment and his understanding of conservative principles. Real conservatives believe in local control and the right of communities to determine their own character and governance. They don't support top-down mandates that could enable the establishment of parallel legal systems that undermine American law.

Texas voters deserve leaders who will fight to preserve American values and constitutional governance - not politicians who would open the door to foreign legal systems taking root in American soil. As Middleton seeks higher office, Texans must ask themselves: is this the kind of "conservative" leadership they want representing them?

The Trump administration's America First agenda stands in stark contrast to policies that would enable the fragmentation of American communities along religious and legal lines. True patriots understand that while religious freedom is sacred, it cannot come at the expense of American sovereignty and local self-governance.

Our city council fought hard against state overreach last year on zoning issues. We don't need more politicians in Austin making decisions for our local communities!

This is disappointing but not surprising. Too many establishment Republicans talk conservative but govern like Democrats when it comes to centralized power.

RINO alert! Any Republican pushing for less local control is not someone I can support.

Primary season can't come fast enough. We need real conservatives, not these fake ones who abandon principles when convenient.

The 10th Amendment exists for a reason. Power should flow from the people up, not from the state down to local governments.

Exactly! Jefferson would be rolling in his grave seeing Republicans push for MORE centralized control.

Thank you for exposing this! Voters deserve to know where candidates really stand on core conservative values.

Wait, can someone explain what exactly this Sharia City bill does? I want to understand the full scope before making judgment.

Same here. The headline is concerning but I'd like to see the actual bill language.

This is exactly why we need to vet our candidates more carefully! How can someone who supports stripping local control call themselves a conservative?

Absolutely agree. Local control is a cornerstone of conservative principles.
