A Democratic congressional candidate in Iowa has sparked outrage after revealing that the September 11th terrorist attacks - which killed nearly 3,000 innocent Americans - taught her primarily about "anti-Muslim bigotry" rather than the dangers of Islamic extremism.
Lutheran minister Sarah Trone Garriott, who is seeking a House seat, made the tone-deaf comments in a recent opinion piece defending her controversial 2021 decision to read a Muslim prayer on the Iowa Senate floor. Instead of acknowledging the very real threat that radical Islam poses to America, Garriott chose to lecture Iowans about supposed prejudice.
"The September 11 attacks made me more aware of anti-Muslim bigotry and the harm it caused," Garriott wrote, completely missing the point that 19 Islamic terrorists hijacked four planes and murdered thousands of her fellow Americans in the name of jihad.
This is exactly the kind of backwards thinking that has infected the Democratic Party. While patriotic Americans rightfully learned to be vigilant against Islamic terrorism after 9/11, Garriott apparently learned to worry more about hurting feelings than protecting lives.
Another Woke Pastor Puts Politics Over Truth
Garriott's comments reveal the dangerous mindset plaguing too many religious leaders today - more concerned with appearing "inclusive" than standing up for American values and security. As a Lutheran minister, shouldn't she be focused on protecting her flock rather than virtue signaling to radical leftists?
Iowa voters deserve a representative who understands that 9/11 was an act of war against America, not a lesson in tolerance. They need someone who will stand with President Trump's America First agenda, not someone who sees our greatest national tragedy as an opportunity to lecture Americans about bigotry.
The fact that Garriott thinks this message will resonate with Iowa families shows just how out of touch the Democratic Party has become. Patriots remember 9/11 as the day we learned we must be strong against those who hate our freedoms - not the day we should have become more "understanding" of the ideology that drove those attacks.
