Some people never learn. Mark Sanford, the scandal-plagued former South Carolina governor and congressman who got absolutely demolished by President Trump back in 2018, is apparently glutton for punishment and thinks he can somehow withstand the Trump machine this time around.
The last time this RINO decided to take on Trump, it ended in total humiliation. Sanford spent months in 2018 attacking the President from his perch in Congress, joining the Never-Trump resistance instead of supporting the America First agenda that voters actually wanted. The result? Trump endorsed his primary challenger and Sanford got booted out of office faster than you can say "Appalachian Trail."
Now, with Trump riding high in his second term and enjoying massive support from the MAGA base, Sanford apparently thinks the political landscape has somehow shifted in his favor. What planet is this guy living on?
Trump's Track Record Speaks for Itself
Let's be crystal clear about what happens when establishment Republicans try to go toe-to-toe with President Trump. They lose. Bigly. Trump's endorsement record is legendary, and his ability to mobilize grassroots conservatives against RINOs is unmatched in modern politics.
Sanford seems to forget that Trump isn't just some politician – he's the leader of a movement that represents millions of working Americans who are sick and tired of do-nothing establishment types who talk conservative but govern like Democrats.
"The American people see right through these fake conservatives who spend more time attacking Trump than fighting for our values," said one South Carolina GOP activist.
What's particularly galling is that while Trump was delivering on his promises – securing the border, bringing jobs back to America, and draining the swamp – Sanford was playing footsie with the mainstream media and positioning himself as some kind of "principled conservative." Give us a break.
A Losing Strategy
If Sanford thinks the Republican base has somehow forgotten his betrayal or moved on from the Trump movement, he's in for a rude awakening. Trump's support among GOP voters remains rock solid, and his second-term agenda of mass deportations, tariffs, and government efficiency is exactly what Patriots want to see.
The question isn't whether Sanford can withstand Trump's criticism – it's whether he's foolish enough to try. Smart money says he'll learn the hard way that you don't bet against Trump and win.
