Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is making good on President Trump's promise to restore common sense to our military by ending one of the most absurd policies in military history – treating our own military bases as gun-free zones.
For decades, our brave men and women in uniform have been prohibited from carrying firearms on base, except for a tiny group of designated security personnel like military police. Think about that for a moment: we train these patriots to defend our nation with weapons, then strip them of their right to defend themselves the moment they step foot on their own base.
The penalties for violating this insane policy have been severe – ranging from rank reduction and forfeiture of pay to court-martial, dishonorable discharge, and even imprisonment. We've been punishing soldiers for wanting to protect themselves and their fellow service members.
Remember Fort Hood?
This isn't just about policy – it's about life and death. Remember the 2009 Fort Hood shooting where 13 people were killed and 30 wounded by a radical Islamic terrorist? Those heroes were sitting ducks, unable to defend themselves because of these very gun-free zone policies that the Obama-era military establishment refused to change.
Or how about the 2015 Chattanooga shooting where four Marines and one sailor were gunned down at a military recruitment center? Once again, our warriors were defenseless because bureaucrats decided they couldn't be trusted with the very weapons they're trained to use.
"We trust these men and women to carry weapons in combat zones around the world, but we don't trust them to carry on their own bases? That ends now," a Pentagon source familiar with the policy changes told reporters.
This is exactly the kind of America First, common-sense leadership we voted for in 2024. While the previous administration was busy pushing woke ideology and pronouns on our military, Secretary Hegseth is focused on what actually matters – keeping our troops safe and ready.
Patriots, this is what real leadership looks like. No more treating our military bases like liberal college campuses. Our soldiers deserve the right to defend themselves, period.
What other ridiculous military policies do you think Secretary Hegseth should eliminate next?
